And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul. There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How ev'rything still turns to gold. And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last. When all are one and one is all To be a rock and not to roll.

You know what I love? I love being well enough known at my local Jamba Juice that when I walk in during the lunch rush on a sunny day with the place packed, I am spotted as I walk in the door, greeted by name, and by the time I get to the front of the line I can pay and get my 16oz. Strawberry Energizer with Daily Vitamin boost handed to me, before the 7 or so people in line ahead of me get theirs. I love that.

| super lame |
[Saturday

|
So I'm rewatching the first season of Heroes, going back to the time when Heroes was actually good, not just ridiculous and reasonably entertaining. Anyway, it occurs to me, on a second watching, that Peter basically has super empathy. That's pretty much the lamest thing ever.

Holy Jesus this is exciting. I went and hand delivered my ballot to my local polling station this afternoon, and it felt good. Now I'm sitting at my computer with tabs open for the maps from CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News. It amuses me how CNN has Obama up 77-34, MSNBC has him up 103-34 (PA, which is reasonable), and Fox is still only calling Vermont and Kentucky. Methinks they aren't terribly pleased with how things are looking.

Q: Explain your strategy for setting up integrals for application problems.
A: 1. Break problem down into small, simple pieces. 2. Calculate value when the number of pieces approaches infinity. 3. ??? 4. Profit!
Yes, I got full points on that question. I win.

Getting Sick + 7:30 Calc Test - Time For Coffee = Fuck.
Probably could have done just fine with more time, but my brain just would not get its shit together in the 50 minutes I had.

Maybe I'm late to the party on Wonderella, maybe you all are. I just found it today and it's making me happy. Enjoy.
EDIT: To further convince you of the awesomeness: Read. It occurs to me that Frank Miller's work is one of those rare things where the work and the parody thereof are equally enjoyable. Few things reach that level of over the top awesome.

It occurs to me that people who argue that because our founding fathers were Christian, we must be a Christian nation, regardless of what they chose to put in the Constitution, might as well argue that we have to be pedophiles to use basic mathematical concepts. Almost all Greek mathematicians slept with young boys, it was the culture. It doesn't have fuck to do with the Pythagorean theorem though because Pythagoras didn't include ass fucking between the hypotenuse and the other two sides.

I am now running Ubuntu on my PC, in addition to Vista. Why didn't I do this before? Besides gaming, all Vista ever gave me was a vaguely unclean feeling. It's so nice to trade that for the smug, self righteous superiority of a Linux user. And really, it's just a joy to use, from the install process on. 28 minutes from shutting down Vista to being online with Ubuntu, it boggles the mind that something could be so easy. Hooray, Linux!

| bumbershoot, at last |
[Wednesday
September 10th] |
First, a list of the bands I managed to see at Bumbershoot this year: Barcelona, The Fall of Troy, Band of Horses, Nada Surf, The Lonely H, T.I., The Black Keys, Stone Temple Pilots, Kate Tucker and the Sons of Sweden, Paramore, Blitzen Trapper, Bedouin Soundclash, Superchunk, and Death Cab for Cutie.
14 bands for $100, not a bad deal at all. With a couple exceptions, they were all good performances, too. Hit the jump for whatever thoughts I can piece together about the shows, and possibly some song files if I'm in a sharing mood.

$230 worth of new motherboard later, and my PC at least is up and running once more. Now to redo the hours of work I put into overclocking the last configuration... oh well. At least the internet is once more available to me!

[Friday

I am posting this from a computer that I only touch when my dad fucks it up, and is so slow it makes baby Jesus cry. I own two computers. If one breaks it shouldn't be a big deal, right? Right. But when one breaks and then my fucking cat knocks over my bottled frappuccino on my Macbook Pro...I'm out of computers. I did everything you're supposed to do for a laptop spill. Immediately powered down, yanked the power cord, got the battery out of there. I mopped it up and then removed all the keys for deeper cleaning. I'm not powering it up for two days to let it thoroughly dry. I'm not optimistic about its chances though. Even if it's dry and boots properly, the sugar is going to corrode it and it might fail in a month or so. Boo. Ahead of schedule upgrade possibly.
